Wow that is expensive stuff

Well, although Raskal does try to bury (cover) the food, he will eat the Science Prescription Diet C/D formula.  I had to call to see if we could pick up a package of the food and when she said it was $17.20 I  was expecting a big bag, but when my dad came home (sent him for it since hubby was at work), it was only a four pound bag.  Holy cow that stuff is expensive.  Today we took him for his last shot of antibiotics and requested the give to him in a different spot and they did.  Poor guy finally sleeping now.  He such a nervous kitty.  I had hubby stay in the car with him until I knew they were going to take him straight back to make it easier on him.  He lost a few ounces already!  Not sure how long this will last, since just him eating it and only 1/4 of a cup in morning then at dinner time, they said it should last a month.  Well we will see!  He didn’t like the moist food formula of that though!

Well dad brought some information on simplified issue life insurance today.  I think one of the guys he hangs out with printed it out for him.  He put it over on my desk and told me it was for me.  For me?  Not sure what to make of that.  Generally its pens, pencils, the occasional can of ginger ale, but life insurance paperwork for me?  I really think his friend meant that to be for him.  Did I mention I had to confront him regarding his pain medication?  Yeah there isn’t enough to last until the 3rd of next month!  He has taken too much, by getting into it.  Yep 240 Vicodin in less than a month!  Not good.  He has been going into his room to laying down in the evenings still.  I decided I am not keeping his pain medication in his drawer in the bathroom anymore after this month.  Or just keep what is in his cups for the day only.  That way I can be sure he doesn’t do it again.

We got a little snow today.  My son went out to shovel, oh dear I bet I will be the talk of the break room again!  (rolls eyes)  We didn’t get much but hear the temperature is going to drop really low.  I know that has to hurt my dad’s arthritis.  I have no Humira here for his appointment tomorrow, hoping they have a sample.  Never heard back on the new drug company yet.  I went to a lot of trouble to arrange it but it still not taken care off, not sure if that is the doctor end or their end.  I was told by drug insurance no prior authorization was needed, but they suggested mail order to save dad money.  So I sent all that information (typed out) to the nurse two weeks ago, as they said it would only take 10 minutes and she told my dad it would take longer than that he needed the prior authorization.  Well okay, why would they tell me he didn’t, when he did?  OH well, what can I do right?  Hands are tied!

Wow tomorrow is Friday already?  Where did the week go?  I took a few pictures of Raskal at the vet on my cell phone I need to upload I was going to post one.  I have a few of him in the kennel too, hoping its the last time poor guy!  We are praying he won’t need the surgery!!

Yes, the “special” food is terribly expensive. It started out being around $20 or $25 a 10lb bag when Bubba first went on it and the last time we bought it at the vet it was just over $40 a bag for a 10 lb bag. It’s highway robbery!!!

The place I had found Bubba’s food at the last couple of times was http://www.entirelypets.com I got a 20lb bag for not much over $50. With the online sites, you do have to pay $10 or $15 shipping usually, but it still averages out to being much cheaper than the vet for me. I often buy 2 bags at once because the shipping on the second bag only increases it by 2 or 3 dollars, so it saves me more money in the long run to buy it in bulk like that. Since we started buying in larger bags to save money, we just bought one of those vaults that they sell at like Petco or PetSmart that is supposedly air tight so it is sure to stay fresh and still taste good to him even if we have it open for several months. It seems to work well for Bubba.

I was just looking up the food on that site as I wrote this and noticed they don’t seem to have Bubba’s food anymore. Oh no! Well, I have also bought from http://www.petfooddirect.com before. It’s a couple dollars more there, but still much cheaper than the vets office. I’ll research a little to see if I stumble across any other options out there and will share it with you if I do.

Before you buy from any of these places, also go to an online coupon site and search to see if you can also find a coupon for the order. I do this all the time and often find a $5 off or 10% off or something along those lines. The sites I often use are http://www.retailmenot.com , http://www.couponmountain.com , http://www.savings-center.com
