Why is my laptop so slow?

So I am really love my laptop my hubby bought for me. But I have to tell you I am really having a hard time breaking my habit of the desktop tower to my laptop! First off Vista is really an adjustment. Yes I do like the new features I do admit that but it just so slow to load! So I am trying to decide if I want to be brave and open up my laptop and add more ramto it! Perhaps it would load a little faster. That is the least expensive way, as my other choice is to down grade to Windows XP Professional and man have you seen the price of that? You think it would be very cheap now but its not.
