Drip Drip water coming from the furnance!
August 20, 2007
Today was definitely a typical Monday for me. I me seriously it is. This morning I was just doing my routine for a Monday, getting up early to get ready for kiddo’s to arrive, do some cleaning, wash a load of towels, you know the fun stuff. So I put the towels in the dryer, did a few things, check email and all that fun stuff, Towels were dry, Hey that was fast!!
So I go in to fold my towels and I hear this drip…drip…drip… and its raining outside, no windows open and I keep hearing drip…drip…drip and I am thinking to myself Hello I have an attic above my head, I should not be hearing drip…drip…drip… And low and behold in front of the furnace there water I get some paper towels and wow we are talking serious amount of water, tiles are soak so I whip out the bath towels. I watch to see where the water is coming from and its from the bottom of the front panel of the furnace.
Now that ain’t normal. So I soak up water, made a mad dash for the phone to call hubby at work and told him, we have serious problem, where the water was coming from and what does he say to me??? Are you sure it’s not coming from the hot water tank?? Err I know the difference here I know I am a woman and all I am 100% sure. He comes home, in his work uniform (BTW he looks so handsome in his work duds), goes up into the attic and sees its leaking around the flute of the furnace from the roof. It’s been raining non stop since Sunday morning and I am praying for it to stop. OK home warranty claim time. But can we say NOT!
I called, I explained where the water was coming from they sent someone out that came clear from Cleveland, he then proceeds to tell me I have several leaks up in the attic. By this time I am really upset and freaking out. Then he talks to the warranty company, I need a flute liner inserted into the flute and hands me the phone and guess what isn’t covered under this warranty. So tell me again the they didn’t know this when I called and explained where the water was coming from. So now that you called out the tech clear from Cleveland I have to pay the service call from there. Had I known that I would of called someone local! So I ask about the leaking roof we have coverage for that and they wanted to send another person out to access and then decide. I said NO Way I can’t take the chance in you saying that’s not covered and being responsible for two service calls. I asked the repair guy how much it would cost to fix and he told me, I shit you not $875.00. I don’t have that just laying around. So nothing got fixed, and I had to pay $85.00 just to drive out here. I had to literally count quarters to come up with the full amount in cash. NO check policy ain’t that some shit. Can we say that’s not going on the books!!
So by this time I am in tears called the homeowner insurance to see if they cover the damage to furnace from the leak of the roof as I know that’s not covered. They said yes but we have a $1,000 deductible. But they said I had to call and get a roofer out to tarp our roof as its still raining. I called 12 roofers today and not one of them just come out to tarp. They want to give you estimates and replace roof. UGH. I actually called another service and explain the issue leaking roof, needs tarp per insurance company do you do that and can’t you believe that bitch said to me in a sarcastic way well they are roofers (was their answering service), and I said listen here I just called 9 other roofers and they don’t do that so don’t talk to me like I am stupid and hung the f’ing phone up. WTF was that? By this time I have zero tolerance for idiots.
Hubby came home from work and went into the attic to do his own assessment and comes down to tell me that guy was full of shit, the only place leaking was by furnace and one of the vents which is closed now. He climbed up on the roof, come back down and said the flute needed resealed and went to home depot for the stuff he needed (even works and you can apply in the rain), total cost $17.84 for a gallon of the sealant and a brush. He said that guy was trying to scare me because I was a “woman”. Took hubby about an hour he walked around to all the vents and put sealant around them all to be safe and the flute top that had a crack and around the flute.
In meantime I do have a roofing company coming out Friday for some estimates. We knew that within 5 years we have to put a new roofing material up. It’s only been a year. We had planned on doing this at tax time, then next tax time was for windows. Our two year plan. So have to see what they say.
But I hate how men do that. I had a house full of kids and running around with things trying to catch the rain as it dripped into my furnace, and he took advantage and tried to upset me and convinced me we had all this major crap going on! I was a wreck all damn day. Needless to say I am tired tonight. Yep, another typical Monday for Susan!

Got something to say?

take it from me - being married to a master Carpenter - replace the roof as fast as you can. Roof Damage can lead to many more problems. If you can patch it until Tax time you’re good to go. We’ll be replacing ours soon, too then Windows *sigh* Glad this is just a long term flip for us - 5 years from now we’ll be building *yay*
