Dinner and a certificate of nomination!

Today hubby’s mom and sister, oh and her hubby were over for dinner.  Hubby told me at 10:00 last night that his mom was up this way and they were coming over.  Good thing I had bought the roast yesterday at IGA, on sale too, I thought I get two meals from but it was just enough to feed us all tonight!  My daughter had to work and doesn’t eat it anyhow!  It was cool today so I even baked a cake!  Wow its the end of JUNE and I baked a cake!  How about that!  Usually I don’t bake except in the fall and winter time!  I cooked the roast in my oven roaster in the garage with baby carrots and potatoes around it!  It was delish!!

So I check the mail today, and guess what arrives?  A “let’s make me feel old” moment!!  I received a certificate of nomination to the American Legion for my time I served in the military!  LOL I kid you not I did!  Hubby just thinks its the greatest thing LOL.  I thought it was just something about some sort of insurance to buy oh nooooooo!  Lordy be!  I am NOT ready for this YET!! LOL

I remember my grandpa, my mom’s side, I never got to know my dad’s mom or dad as they passed away (his dad when he was 15 and his mom when I was 6 months old),  he always use to the Legion in town where I grew up and drink!  My grandparents were divorced and lived with us when we were little oh that made for FUN times, but I remember him going there and coming home corked and mean.  It’s funny how this just brought that memory right to my mind.  I can see him sitting in our old kitchen at the table smoking a cigarette in my mind.  He had emphysema and used an inhaler until he had to have oxygen all the time and still smoked go figure, but I remember that very vividly!

He was in the Navy too!  He was a cook and served during WWII.  He was also a member of the VFW.  So I guess in my mind I just pictured myself much older before those times would come for me to join, maybe?  I dunno!

I am going to think about it.  I proud that I served my country and proud of our men and women and grateful for the sacrifices they make for us each and every day!!

I’m proud of you for your service to our country, too! The weather has been quite strange spring and now summer, makes for good baking weather though!!!
