Dad had a bad night

Wow so very tired….again going to post my update on dad and hope that it makes sense…

I went in this morning and had to take my 16 year old with me, he had no classes today and his sister had plans (not going there today with this one).  I wish today wasn’t the day he had to go with me.  When I walked in it wasn’t good.  He looked just horrible, sounded terrible and just fell to pieces telling me about his night. They had to get some packs to cool him now.  They took him down for his CT scan of his lungs last night prior to that.  He was nauseated and vomiting and just hurting something awful.  He was crying and telling me he thought he was dying.  I said dad why didn’t you call me I had my phone on, he said he didn’t have my number so today I wrote down and its right next to the phone.  They gave him some meds and the infectious disease specialist ordered an ultrasound of his heart which he had before I got there this morning.  We will get those results tomorrow.

Today we were told the CT scan show some pneumonia yes but it also brought bad news.  There are nodes in my dads lung.  So tomorrow he will be seeing a lung doctor to see what the next step will be.  My dad said why not I have everything else wrong with me :-(

He ate a few saltine crackers, I got him a ginger ale he had very little, got him to eat a half of jello cup before I left to come home for hubby today.  His memory is hit or miss.

After I went back to the hospital with hubby the stomach doctor came in and told us that the growth was just full of bacteria and so is his stomach with gastritis and some other issue with his stomach that I forget the name off, so now my dad can no longer have anything tomato based, chocolate, only two servings of coffee a day, no eating after 8pm.  So my dad is really limited food wise as chili was a staple for him.  It was an every other week thing I would cook for him and he have for lunch for the week.  Not spicy I never made it spicy, but one of the few things he would eat because he is such a picky eater and his snack every night was some form of ice cream that was chocolate related.  He just looks like he lost his best friend when he was told all this tonight.

He is pulling a few fast ones with “story telling” like when I came back and ask what this cup with smelled like oranges in it was he said he didn’t know that the priest who left the paper must of left it with the cranberry juice there.  I asked if he wanted it, he said no, so I took it and disposed of it.  After a while his nurse came in with another cup and said ok lets try grape juice and had this power packets I asked what that was, it was potassium because his level is low (in blood) and I looked at him and said you little sneak.  I told her what he said and she shook her finger at him!!  The nurse said well this time your daughter is here so I will leave her in charge that you drink all of this.  Guess what he did!   This is what he does, he pulls “fast ones” if you don’t pay attention!!!!  But it made us laugh……and I think it was needed.

I came home today and was talking to hubby about things and just cried for just a moment on his shoulder.  I am so tired……

So I think I remembered everything…….thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!!!!!  The new hospitalist (this is in place of your regular physician because our family doctor doesn’t have contract/insurance  with the hospital) is a royal asshole and I don’t like how he talked and treated my dad this morning or talked to me (young and arrogant) and neither did his RA doctor, so trust me when I tell you she will take care of it), but I won’t go there tonight, that would take me hours to type!!

But I will give you a short version:  He was “demanding” she will come in and take him off the prednisone because of the fungus in his esophagus, and didn’t not give her a full report of all going on.  Now I tried to tell his Mr. Know It All M.D. that won’t happen, he can’t go off of it, because the R.A. (Rheumatoid Arthritis) is too advanced.  So he went off half cocked..I called to talk to her nurse and they will lower it from 15mg to 10mg but he can NOT come off of it and that is that.  She is going to come in and see him tomorrow.  But she (her nurse) was glad I called because I gave them more information about my dad’s condition than that Mr. Know It All M.D.
